Bored At Work?

You get bonus points for creative use of office supplies and still falling into the "work-related use" category. (The aluminum foil/newspaper-covered cubicle doesn't use "office supplies" and may require use of your own money for pranking supplies!)

Looking for some extra cash?

Want to catch malaria — and get $4,000 for it?
Volunteers would be bitten by infected mosquitoes in vaccine study
AP 7:24 p.m. CT, Wed., March. 5, 2008

SEATTLE - The Seattle Biomedical Research Institute will pay volunteers as much as $4,000 to be bitten by mosquitoes infected with malaria.
Scientists say no lives are in danger because the volunteers can be cured. The institute is testing which vaccines work fastest.
The head of the program, Dr. Patrick Duffy, said volunteers will spend several nights under medical supervision in a hotel.

New Hair....

Someone I know who recently cut her long, thick, gorgeous hair short said to me when I asked her why she cut it: "I didn't want to be too attached to my hair."

A few thoughts on attachment to material and physical things:

Buddha says in the Sutta Nipata, "Greed, I say, is a great flood; it is a whirlpool sucking one down, a constant yearning, seeking a hold, continually in movement; difficult to cross is the morass of sensual desire. A sage does not deviate from truth, a brahmana stands on firm ground; renouncing all, he is truly called 'calmed.'" Those that have reached a calm nature and have renounced material things are free from this world of difficulty and constant yearning.

Buddha spoke elsewhere about greed: "Greed is an imperfection that defiles the mind."

Mother Teresa said, "It is easy to let yourself get smothered by material things. Once you have them, you have to devote time to take care of them. And then you have no time for one another..."

I'm perusing this philosophy quite a bit these days, I guess. And it was time for a change. And I WAS too attached to my hair! So...new hair!!!
